Frequently Asked Questions

Pediatric Dentist in Arlington, VA

It's my first appointment, what should I expect?

First of all, welcome to VK Pediatric Dentistry! We’re excited to meet you. We hope to become your children's dental home by establishing a comfortable relationship between our team, your kids, and you. For most kids (unless you are coming in for a specific referral or emergency), our first appointment will consist of an exam, x-rays (if needed), and cleaning. Dr. Peter will come up with an individualized treatment plan for your child and answer any questions you may have along the way. Please make sure you complete our patient forms and provide your insurance information at least 2 days before your appointment. We will take care of the rest!

What should I do if I'm running late?

For routine appointments, we kindly request you arrive 10 minutes prior to the scheduled appointment time. If you're running late, please give us a call and let us know as soon as you can. We'll do everything we can to accomodate you when you get here but you may be asked to reschedule. We know life can be unpredictable at times. Pediatric dental care can be unpredictable at times too. We make sure we give every patient the time they deserve so occasionally we run a few minutes behind. We appreciate your patience in these times, knowing we would extend the same attention to your child should they ever need it.

What insurances do you accept?

We welcome all PPO insurance plans. We invite you to call our office to learn more about the benefits of your plan and how services in our office may be covered quite well even if we aren't in your specific network! We understand how confusing insurance plans can be and are here to help. We will take the time to verify, process and file claims on your behalf to ensure that the process is as seamless and easy as possible.

Can't I just take my kids to my general dentist?

A pediatric dentist has spent two to three years after dental school receiving specialized training and only treats children. Pediatric dentists provide primary and specialty oral care for infants and children through adolescence, including those with special health needs. Although some general dentists see some children, pediatric dentists see only kids! Our staff is well trained and our office is equiped to help every kid have the best experience at the dentist possible - whether it be specific materials, behavior guidance techniques, or fun prizes and giveaways.

As a parent, am I allowed to accompany my child during their visit?

We welcome parents into the treatment areas during their child’s visit. Our waiting room is spacious and comfortable (we have iPads with kid friendly games, shows, and books) but if you'd like to come back with your child during their care, we encourage your participation! We request that siblings (if they aren't being seen) remain in the waiting room with an adult.

How often does my child need to go to the dentist?

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a checkup every 6 months to prevent cavities and other dental problems. If your child requires more frequent visits, we will let you know at your appointment.

Why should we come to VK Pediatric Dentistry?

Dr. Peter and his team are the best in the business! We offer a convenient location, an amazing office with the latest technology, and are devoted to making sure everyone leaves with a smile on their face. If you aren't convinced, stop by for a free office tour.

What should I do if I need to cancel an appointment?

We request 24-hours notice to cancel all scheduled appointments. There will be a fee for those appointments cancelled with inadequate notice which will be determined based on the type of appointment and amount of time reserved with a dentist. If you need to reschedule your appointment, please call us as soon as possible.

How early should I arrive to my appointment?

We kindly request you arrive 5-10 minutes prior to the scheduled appointment time. We understand life can cause unexpected delays; please notify our office if you are running late for your appointment. We reserve the right to reschedule if the patient arrives 15 minutes or more beyond their scheduled appointment time.

The nature of pediatric care can be unpredictable at times. We assure that each patient receives the care, time and attention necessary for their treatment. This can mean that occasionally we run a few minutes behind. We appreciate your patience in these times, knowing we would extend the same attention to your child should they ever need it. We will always make every effort to be on time or notify you if we are running behind so you may choose to come in later or reschedule your appointment.
